This article discusses Cesar Chavez and his decision to not allow Mexican immigrants to migrate to the United States illegally. Although many who support the deportation of illegal immigrants would use Cesar Chavez’s claim as an excuse, sometimes they do not know of the purpose behind his support of this decision. In order for Cesar Chavez to have been able to promote his ideas in supporting the Mexican farm workers who were already in the United States, it was required that he take part in preventing illegal immigrants immigration to the United States from their home country so that he could bring attention to the poor working conditions made for workers who already resided in the United States
I do feel that it is important to support those that have migrated from their home country illegally because their purpose for coming is no different than that of many of our ancestors who migrated here as well. They recognize that being a citizen of this country would provide them with many opportunities to live a better life than what was given to them before they left. But I do also consider the position Cesar Chavez stood for in preventing Mexicans from crossing the border because it was not that he wasn't supportive of helping his people, but that he was helping them in a way where he needed to bring attention to one issue they were facing before they could tackle another. It is reasonable to say that the incoming of illegal immigrants would have interfered with his plan of action in trying to help bring justice to his own people. Being that working conditions were unforgiving, Cesar Chavez would do whatever in his power to bring attention to this situation. The fluctuation of incoming immigrants would have created more damage on his plan of action by replacing workers that would go on strike to display their protests. How can he pursue his decision in trying to make people aware of these protests if employers could simply replace the ones on strike with new incoming immigrants looking for jobs? The protests would be going nowhere and no one would take into consideration the issue at hand. This pertains to me because as a Latina, I am learning more and more about the struggles that my people were placed in and understanding what Cesar Chavez purpose was to support deportation. I often heard stories of my own grandmother and other relatives and what their experiences were like growing up having to work in the unbearable heat to pick cotton everyday. As I learn more about my history, I can further learn about what my responsibilities are to myself as well as how I represent my culture and our future opportunities. I feel that this partakes in the studies of interest groups due to the fact that some may take the actions of what cesar chavez did as an activist and use the idea to mainly support the prevention of immigrants migrating to the united states in general or those who use his action to help put forth the effort in working with the responsibilities here before moving on towards helping those outside of the United States.
